How to improve the impact resistance of abrasion resistant ceramic lining
Abrasion resistant ceramic liners have solved the problem of wear for heavy wear industries such as cement, steel, mining, lithium batteries, and metallurgy. However, in the minds of many manufacturers, liners are also labeled as brittle and not impact-resistant. How about the impact resistance of ceramics? How can we improve the impact resistance?
The main material of the wear resistant ceramic lining plate we usually call is alumina, its fracture toughness KΙC ≥ 4.8MPa?m1/2, and bending strength ≥ 290MPa. Compared with metal materials such as steel, the impact resistance is indeed inferior. However, through some special processes, the impact resistance of the wear-resistant ceramic lining can be greatly improved.
1. Surface design with spherical protrusions:
The unique mechanical properties of spherical protrusions can evenly disperse the impact force on the liner, reducing the possibility of the liner being broken by impact. It is a relatively common method to improve the impact resistance of abrasion resistant ceramic liners.
2. Increased rubber surface area
Alumina ceramic liners are mostly used in combination with rubber. The impact resistance of ceramics is weak, but the impact resistance of rubber is very strong. We can give full play to the advantages of both, using ceramics to prevent wear and rubber to resist impact.
The specific operation method is to expose more rubber on the surface of the liner during the vulcanization process, such as leaving gaps or using round ceramic sheets. It should be noted that as the rubber area on the surface of the liner increases, the ceramic area will decrease, and the impact resistance will increase while the wear resistance will decrease. When using it, it needs to be considered comprehensively according to the actual working conditions.
The impact resistance of wear-resistant ceramics itself is indeed not impact resistant enough, but this problem can be solved by spherical design, vulcanized rubber, and adding zirconia, so that wear-resistant ceramic linings can adapt to most heavy wear and strong impact conditions.
